The City of Durango announces the opening of Lake Nighthorse for the 2019 season will be Sunday, March 31, subject to snow and weather conditions. The Lake will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays ONLY, from March 31 – April 28, for non-motorized watercraft. Hours of operation from March 31 – April 28 will be from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Lake will be open daily beginning May 1. Watercraft that are classified as non-exempt by Colorado Parks and Wildlife or are trailered will be inspected for aquatic nuisance species.
The City of Durango is hosting the “2nd Annual First to Fish” kids-only fishing event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. This special opportunity is restricted to children 15 years old or younger. This event is free, and season passes will be available for purchase during the event.
Beginning on May 15, Lake Nighthorse will be open for motorized watercraft.
Lake Nighthorse is a fee area. Season and 5-punch passes are now available for purchase at the Durango Community Recreation Center, located at 2700 Main Avenue. Season, 5-punch and day use passes will be available at the Lake Nighthorse entrance station during hours of operation, beginning March 31.
The recreation operation of Lake Nighthorse is funded by the dedicated Parks and Recreation sales tax funds, Bureau of Reclamation, user fees, independent contractor partnerships, and grants.
