Lake Nighthorse Motorized Boating Revised Schedule

The City of Durango and Bureau of Reclamation have announced that motorized boating and launching from trailers at Lake Nighthorse will begin on Saturday, May 19 with daily motorized and/or non-motorized recreation opportunities through Memorial Day, May 28.  Beginning Tuesday, May 29 the boat ramp parking lot will be closed to the public due to more extensive necessary repairs to be completed by the Bureau of Reclamation.  Lake Nighthorse will continue with daily operations for paddling and non-motorized hand launched watercraft.

During the reconstruction of the boat ramp parking lot, the boat ramp will not be available to launch motorized and non-motorized watercraft from trailers.  Pedestrians will be able to travel though the boat ramp parking lot when construction is not taking place, especially on weekends.  Only the overflow parking lot will be available for public use.  In May, Lake Nighthorse will be open daily for recreation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Beginning June 1, the extended hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Once motorized boating is restricted due to construction activities, the Parks and Recreation Department will accept reservations for complimentary boat and trailer inspections by contacting the Lake Nighthorse entrance station at (970) 375-7335.  This service will continue until the boat ramp is open for motorized boating and launching from trailers when daily boat inspections will resume.

The City of Durango and Bureau of Reclamation will notify the public once reconstruction of the boat ramp parking lot is complete and motorized boating resumes at Lake Nighthorse.  Visit the City of Durango website at DurangoGov.org/LakeNighthorse for the current schedule for recreational use at Lake Nighthorse.  For additional information regarding boating at Lake Nighthorse, contact Durango Parks and Recreation Department Administrative Office at (970) 375-7321 or the Lake Nighthorse entrance station at (970) 375-7335 or by email at rec@durangogov.org
