Upcoming Traffic Light Installation at East Second Avenue and College Drive

Construction is nearing completion for the College Drive improvements project, along College Drive between Main Avenue and Fourth Avenue.

  • Restriping of the lanes between Main Avenue and Third Avenue along College Drive is underway, including the addition of bike boxes and turn arrows. Lanes will be temporarily shifted while striping is conducted.
  • The signal poles on the north side of the East Second Avenue and College Drive intersection will be placed Wednesday, May 16th.  Traffic flaggers will direct traffic but lanes will remain open during the installation.  The signal poles on the south side of the intersection are in place. The traffic lights will remain covered until Tuesday May 22nd, at which time they will begin flashing yellow for three days and then will become fully activated.
  • The Barnes Dance crossing at College Drive and Main Avenue will be decommissioned Wednesday May 16th and restriped to the traditional piano key crossing.

Travelers are encouraged to utilize caution in the construction zone.  The College Drive improvements project from Main Avenue to Fourth Avenue is scheduled to complete on Friday, May 25th. The improvements include installation of a new traffic signal at College Drive and East 2nd Avenue to provide safe pedestrian access across College Drive and assure that ADA compliant access is available, increase the efficiency and safety of vehicle turning movements, and install dedicated bicycle lanes with bike boxes at each intersection. These changes were identified as part of the City’s Multimodal Transportation Plan and the 2016 Durango Road Diet Study for College Drive and East 8th Avenue.  For more information and a map of the improvements, visit DurangoGov.org/CollegeDrive.
