Code Enforcement

Durango City Code Enforcement

To ensure certain codes are followed, many local governments employ officers whose job is to enforce the regulations. The codes usually cover zoning issues, nuisance concerns, sign ordinances, and property maintenance. A code enforcement officer is informed about a possible violation through complaints, governmental agencies, or by discovering the violation on his own.

The City of Durango Code currently has 1,998 pages in the book; they cover everything from the powers that the citizens give the city such as planning, zoning, nuisances, building construction, health, safety, and a multitude of other codes. Code enforcement officers also enforce county, state, and federal codes as warranted.
